JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Men's Soccer team fell 1-0 to Covenant on Saturday afternoon at Belhaven Bowl Stadium.
Covenant netted the game's only goal in the 10th minute, converting on a counterattack following a Blazer corner. From there, Belhaven's back line tightened, and goalkeeper
Danny Bahena kept the match within reach by recording three saves in 90 minutes of action.
The Blazers continued to press forward after the early deficit, earning five first-half corner kicks and several quality looks on goal.
Courtland Williams and
Avery Anders each forced saves before halftime, while
Samuel Hadley tested the keeper again in the 39th minute as Belhaven trailed 1-0 at the break.
In the second half, Belhaven increased its tempo and attacking pressure. The Blazers outshot Covenant 9-5 over the final 45 minutes and generated seven corner kicks overall, but the equalizer never materialized.
Adrian Sanchez led the charge with four shots, including three on target, while Williams added three more attempts.
Defensively,
Ciaran Colvin and
Graham Harris anchored the back line as Belhaven limited Covenant to just one corner kick and nine total shots.Â
Belhaven moves to 9-4-4 overall and 2-1-2 in CCS play. The Blazers will look to rebound in their regular season finale next Saturday at Piedmont. Kickoff is set for 2:00 PM.
