Blazers Defense Sparks 41-26 Home Win Over Greensboro

JACKSON. - Three defensive touchdowns fueled the Belhaven Football team to a 41-26 victory over Greensboro College on Saturday afternoon at Belhaven Bowl Stadium. The Blazers improved to 4-2 overall and 3-0 in USA South play with the win.

After a Greensboro fumble return for a touchdown opened the scoring, Belhaven steadied itself with a 42-yard field goal from Lyndell Boatman late in the first quarter to make it 7-3. The Blazers took control in the second quarter, beginning with a safety when Austin Maloney sacked the quarterback in the end zone to cut the deficit to 7-5.

On the next offensive possession, quarterback Brock Morris led an 88-yard scoring drive capped by a 12-yard touchdown strike to RJ Garrison, giving Belhaven its first lead of the game at 12-7. Greensboro added a field goal just before halftime, and the Blazers entered the break ahead 12-10.

Belhaven's defense flipped the game in the third quarter with two interception returns for touchdowns in the span of six minutes.

Icarius Hodgin delivered the first blow, returning an interception 28 yards for a touchdown to extend the lead to 20-10. Moments later, Luke Handy picked off another pass and took it to the end zone, pushing the advantage to 34-10 late in the third quarter.

The Blazers' defense forced five turnovers overall, including three interceptions and two fumble recoveries, while also recording three sacks and 10 tackles for loss.

Greensboro opened the fourth quarter with a short touchdown pass, but Belhaven answered immediately. Miles Hardy intercepted a pass at midfield and returned it 52 yards for the Blazers' third defensive touchdown of the day, making it 41-16.

Although Greensboro added a late safety and touchdown in the final minutes, the Blazers' lead proved insurmountable.

Morris finished the day 15-of-30 for 179 yards and one touchdown, spreading the ball to seven different receivers. Caleb Gallashaw paced the rushing attack with 75 yards on 17 carries, while John Davis and TJ Hatch combined for six receptions and 70 yards.

The Blazers totaled 312 yards of offense, balanced between 179 passing and 133 rushing yards. Wyatt Beck and Cornelius Clay: combined for 12 tackles and multiple pass breakups

The Blazers will look to extend their perfect conference record when they host Methodist next Saturday for Homecoming Weekend. Kickoff is set for 12:00 PM.
