JACKSON - Â The Belhaven Women's Soccer team continued its dominant stretch of play on Tuesday night, earning a 3-0 shutout over Millsaps at Harper Davis Field to secure its seventh consecutive win.
The Blazers (10-3-2) wasted little time setting the tone, maintaining heavy possession throughout the match and out-shooting the Majors 37-2 overall, including a 16-1 advantage in shots on goal. Belhaven's relentless pressure generated nine corner kicks and kept the visitors on the defensive from start to finish.
Freshman forward
Kinsey Carter led the charge with a pair of goals - one in each half - marking her first two goals of the season. Carter broke through in the 17th minute  after several early scoring chances for the Blazers. FreshmanÂ
Alexis Whiting added to the lead in the 35th minute, finding the back of the net with a header to make it 2-0 heading into halftime. Carter later sealed the result with her second goal in the 70th minute to cap the night's scoring.
Defensively, Belhaven was airtight once again. Goalkeepers
Addi Roberts,
Ella Field, and
Sidney Roest combined for the team's sixth shutout of the season, with Field registering the lone save. The back line, anchored by
Reagan Nichols,
Alyssa Wilson and
Kadie Craft stifled the opposing attack and limited the Majors to only two total attempts in the contest.
Wilson tallied a team-high eight shots, while Carter and
Lauren Snell added seven and six, respectively.
The team will return to conference action this weekend, heading to Asbury this Saturday. Kickoff is set for 12:00 PM.
