JACKSON - The Belhaven Men's Soccer team picked up a midweek conference victory on Wednesday as they took down Huntingdon 2-0 in what was a strong display on both ends of the pitch for the Blazers.
Belhaven got an early shot away in the opening 10 minutes that signalled the attacking pressure would go on to create throughout the match. Just 20 minutes in,
Graham Harris broke the deadlock after winning the ball near midfield. The Blazers' left back carried possession through midfield and saw his long range effort take a slight deflection that buried it in the bottom corner.
The Blazers racked up eight shots in the first half and forced the Huntingdon goalkeeper into three saves that kept the Belhaven margin at just one goal. The second half saw Belhaven ramp up their pressure, generating 13 total shot attempts including seven on frame.
In the 54th minute, Belhaven doubled the advantage as
Adrian Sanchez spun past a defender on the end-line and played a cutback pass to
Courtland Williams who deftly buried in the far corner for his second goal of the season.
The Blazers nearly made it three just minutes later as
Avery Anders and Williams forced the Hawks goalkeeper into a quick double save. Along with the attacking pressure, the Blazers were stout defensively, allowing just four shots in total with only two testing goalkeeper
Danny Bahena. Belhaven held the majority of possession in the middle and attacking third en route to the CCS win.
Next up for the Blazers will be a quick turnaround as they take on UMHB on Thursday night at the Belhaven Bowl Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM.
