JACKSON - Savannah Hailey of the Belhaven Women's Basketball team and Jonathan Lucas of the Belhaven Men's Basketball team were recognized as C Spire Athletes of the Week for their performances this past week.

Hailey continued her strong first season with the Green and Gold with a couple of games in double figures this week. She tallied 10 points and four rebounds in the Blazers' overtime contest at Maryville before posting a career day in Wednesday's win at LaGrange. In the overtime win, Hailey totaled 19 points and 19 rebounds, both season high's, to lead Belhaven. On the year, the junior guard is averaging 8.5 points and 5.7 rebounds 

Lucas played an important role in three Belhaven wins this past week, including back-to-back double-doubles. In Saturday's win at Maryville, he totaled 11 points and 10 rebounds in 30 minutes of action. The Jackson native went for 12 points and a career-high 18 boards in Wednesday's 61-58 road victory over LaGrange. On the season, Lucas is averaging 10.0 points and 7.2 rebounds per game while shooting nearly 50% from the field.

Hailey and Belhaven return to Rugg Arena to take on Piedmont on Saturday. Tipoff is slated for 2:00 PM.

Lucas and the Blazers take an 11-game winning streak into Saturday's CCS battle against Piedmont. Tipoff is set for 4:00 PM.
