WILMORE, Ky. - The Belhaven Women's Basketball team dropped an 80-69 decision to Asbury on Friday afternoon in Wilmore, Kentucky.
Both teams traded buckets in the opening quarter before the hosts took a 19-15 lead into the second. The Blazers responded with a 5-0 run early in the frame to take the lead, but Asbury answered with an extended run of their own to take a 42-32 lead into the locker room.
The Eagles outscored Belhaven in the third quarter by a 23-17 margin to take a 16-point advantage into the final 10 minutes of play. The lead was 16 again midway through the fourth, but Belhaven did not go away as they scored eight straight to 74-66 with just under three to play.
However, the Blazers were outscored 6-3 over the final minutes to secure a home victory for Asbury in the opening matchup of the year.
Ally Alford led Belhaven with 25 points on six made three-pointers, while
Ashanti Lipscomb added 13 on 3-of-6 from beyond the arc to finish in double figures.
The Blazers will look to respond with a win on Saturday when they travel to Maryville. Tipoff is set for 1:00 PM CT.
