DEMOREST, Ga. - The Belhaven Women's Basketball team suffered a tough conference defeat on Saturday as they fell 79-65 on the road at Piedmont.
In a game that saw the Blazers fall behind early, it was a late second half surge that saw Belhaven nearly climb back into the contest in the waning minutes. Trailing 59-45 heading into the 4th, the Blazers continued to fight and with 2:30 minutes to play, capped off a 13-2 run that brought them back in within six of the Lions.
However the comeback effort came up short in the end with Piedmont restoring a double-digit lead in the final minutes to close out the contest. Belhaven splits their trip to Georgia with Thursday's win over Covenant despite the loss and remains .500 on the season.
Ally Alford was a catalyst in Belhaven's late comeback effort as she tallied 20 points on the day with 5-8 shooting from beyond the arc.
Ebony Gayden finished with 12 points and four rebounds while
Katelyn Coleman and
Shakendalah Jones tallied nine apiece.
The Blazers will return to home on Tuesday when they host Huntingdon in conference action. Tip off against the Hawks is set for 5:00 PM.
