JACKSON - The Belhaven Men's Soccer team stayed unbeaten to start the year on Thursday as they played to a scoreless draw against the visiting LeTourneau Yellowjackets.
The Blazers' were dominant in the match, which was the home opener for the 2024 season. Belhaven created a pair of early chances in the opening minute that put the visitors goal under pressure and were the catalysts for much of the match.
Belhaven outshot LeTourneau 9-5 in the opening half with four shots on target while reigning CCS Defensive Player of the Week
Danny Bahena went untested in goal. The second half saw more pressure from the home club who registered 16 shots to LeTourneau's three. The Blazers' forced the visiting goalkeeper into five second half saves and nine overall in the match.
While Bahena largely had a quiet night, the Texas native did pull out the acrobatics for his lone save of the evening, flying to his right to palm away a free kick from LeTourneau that looked destined for the top corner in the final minutes.
Through three matches, the Blazers sit 1-0-2 and have shown a resolute defense against three strong opponents. The Blazers have conceded just once on the season and have shown a pressing style that is sure to pay off with goals soon.
Belhaven has a quick turnaround to close out a busy week as they host East Texas Baptist University at the Bowl Stadium on Saturday. Kickoff against the Tigers is set for 3:00 PM.
