MARYVILLE, Tenn. - The Belhaven Men's Soccer team picked up a 2-1 win over Maryville this weekend to open up their Collegiate Conference of the South slate on a strong note.
Belhaven opened the scoring inside a half hour of play as
Wesley Bloodworth picked up his 4th goal of the season following a strong delivery from
Avery Anders. After Bloodworth's 29th minute tally, Maryville answered back in the 33rd minute to level the score at 1-1.
Adrian Sanchez would restore the Blazers' lead before the half after a throw from
Austin Ney was headed on by
Diego Sarzalejo and finished off by the sophomore winger. Sanchez's 42nd minute goal would prove to be the match-winner as the Blazers controlled the second half and saw out the conference victory.
The Blazers improve to 4-2-3 on the season and continue an impressive defensive record that has seen them concede just six goals through nine matches so far this year. Conference play will roll on for Belhaven as they turn their attention to a midweek fixture against Huntingdon on Wednesday. Kickoff against the Hawks is set for 3:00 PM in Montgomery.
