JACKSON - The Belhaven Volleyball team picked up a pair of impressive wins over the weekend, taking down both Maryville and Piedmont by 3-1 margins.

Game One vs. Maryville

After staying close in the early going, Belhaven used several big runs across the opening set to take control. A kill by Rylee White capped off an 8-1 run that gave the Blazers an 18-7 lead. After Maryville picked up three straight points to draw within six, Belhaven earned the last five points of the set to win, 25-14.

The visitors got even after using a 9-0 run to take the second set by a score of 25-17. The third set went back and forth as it was the Blazers holding a 17-16 lead late. Belhaven responded with four straight to go up 21-16, and the Blazers were able to surge to a 25-21 set victory.

Once again, the two clubs battled neck and neck until the end. The Scots broke a 16-16 tie to go up by four and seemingly send things to a decisive fifth set. However, Belhaven pushed ahead to score the set's final three points to win, 25-23, and pick up an impressive win over Maryville in the opening match of the day.

Megan LaCour led Belhaven with 10 kills, while Cami Davis had five blocks. Corinne Cason and Rylee added four blocks each.

Game Two vs. Piedmont

In the final match of the afternoon, Belhaven set the tone early with a dominant 25-11 first set victory. Already in front 18-11, the Blazers earned the final seven points to take the set. The second set proved to be much like the first, albeit a late run from Piedmont. Belhaven inched closer to a second win on the day with a 25-19 victory.

Piedmont flipped the script in the third set by taking it by a score of 25-21. In the fourth set, the teams traded points for a majority of the contest with it being a two-point Belhaven lead at 17-15. From that point, the Blazers finished things out with an 8-3 run to win the set and subsequently the match.

LaCour finished with 12 kills and 10 digs in the match to go along with four service aces.

Belhaven continues the conference portion when they travel to LaGrange on Thursday, October 3rd. Start time is set for 6:00 PM.
