JACKSON - The Belhaven Women's Soccer team cruised to another midweek victory on Thursday as they took down Tougaloo 7-0 behind seven first-half goals.
The Blazers jumped out to an early lead as
Kelly McLaughlin got on the end of a low cross from
Hayley Ruckle and turned it home for her first goal of the season in just the 4th minute. Less than 30 seconds later the Blazers got another goal as
Nneka Udeh scored her second goal in as many matches and made it an early 2-0 Blazers' lead.
Udeh would make it a first half brace as she turned home her second goal fo the match and the Blazers' third in just the 13th minute.
Aubrey Gubser was making her debut for the Blazers in the match, getting the start and making an immediate impact with a 19th minute goal from the edge of the box.
In the 31st minute,
Allie Fontenot grabbed her first goal of the year after she took possession of a field switching pass from
Hayley Ruckle, skipped past a defender and curled a shot into the top corner.
Jensen Ward put the Blazers up by a half dozen just a minute later with a long-range shot that was too much for the goalkeeper to handle.
Hayley Ruckle, who created to goals for teammates, got her goal to end the half as she cut inside on her left foot and snuck a shot under the crossbar in the 36th minute for her first goal of the season. Freshman
Abby Jordan had a strong first start for the Green and Gold as well tallying two assists in the opening half.
The second half was shortened to 30 minutes due to the scoreline and the Blazers controlled the final half hour despite not registering another goal. The win is the Blazers' third in a row, all of which have been clean sheets. Over that stretch, Belhaven is outscoring opposition 18-0 overall.
The Blazers return to action on Saturday as they travel to Alabama for a neutral site match against Sewanee.
