JACKSON - The Belhaven Volleyball team opened up the home portion of their 2024 schedule in impressive fashion, taking down crosstown foe Tougaloo in straight sets. It was the Blazers' second straight-set victory of the season.
Five straight points for the Blazers gave them an early 9-5 lead in the opening set. Tougaloo responded to knot things up at 13 midway through the set. The Bulldogs gained an 18-17 advantage before a Belhaven 4-1 run gave the Blazers the lead late. Three kills by
Megan LaCour over the set's final five points pushed the Green and Gold to a 25-21 set win.
The second set proved to be just as highly competitive as the first. After Tougaloo pushed their lead out to 13-10, Belhaven answered with eight of the next nine points to take control at 18-14. The Bulldogs scored four consecutive points to even things at 18, but the Blazers once again responded to with the final five points to pick up Set No. 2, 25-20.
Already with a 2-0 lead in the match, Belhaven left no doubt in the third set as they jumped out to a 16-3 lead. The Blazers stifled any Tougaloo attempts at a comeback as Belhaven cruised to a 25-12 set win to earn the straight-set victory.
LaCour led the Blazers with nine kills and eight digs.
Kayla Robinson added eight digs, while
Rylee White totaled four blocks.
