JACKSON - The Belhaven Women's Soccer team picked up another dominant victory on Tuesday as they took down the Mississippi University for Women 5-0 behind five different goalscorers.
With a busy week on the horizon, the Blazers started in strong fashion dominating the match from the opening kick. Despite the dominance, Belhaven would not find the breakthrough until the 37th minute when
Jessie Heflin volleyed a corner kick delivery from
Emma Antonoplos into the net for her first career goal.
Belhaven would double the lead just six minutes later as
Jenny Satcher got on the end of another corner kick, this time deftly touching it home at the back post for her first goal of the season.
On the other side of the halftime break, Belhaven continued to press the MUW goal.
Kaci Craft opened her account on the 2024 season in the 63rd minute after a corner kick delivery got caught up at the near post and the Blazers' top scorer from a year ago forced it home.
With time waning and Belhaven in control,
Lexi Green got her second goal in as many matches, this time firing a direct free kick from 25 yards out off the inside of the post and into the back of the net. Freshman
Nneka Udeh would finish off the performance with her first career goal as the Blazers once again connected on a corner kick, this time with Udeh heading home from point blank range.
All five goals in the match for the Blazers came from set pieces with each goal coming from a different goalscorer. Belhaven is up to 13 goals on the season with nine different goalscorers on the score sheet.
Ella Field also picked up a clean sheet in her first start of the season in goal.
The Blazers will look to build on back to back clean sheet victories on Thursday when they host Tougaloo at the Belhaven Bowl Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6:00 PM.
