JACKSON - The Blazers' Volleyball team wrapped up play in the Millsaps Invitational on Saturday, falling 3-0 to both McMurry and Austin College.
Game One vs. McMurry
Both teams traded points in the early going before the War Hawks scored four straight to take a 7-3 lead. The Blazers were able to get back within three on two different occasions, but McMurry held serve to take the opening set by a score of 25-18.
McMurry carried that momentum into the second set, jumping out to a 10-5 advantage. Belhaven responded with a 6-1 run at the midway point to cut the lead to 13-12. However, five straight from the War Hawks was enough to create the separation they needed as they went on to win the set, 25-16.
The War Hawks once again led early in the third set, but Belhaven battled back from a 12-5 deficit to eventually take a 19-18 lead. A 3-0 run by Belhaven to go up 23-21 was countered by four straight from McMurry to give the War Hawks the straight-set victory.
Game Two vs. Austin College
In the Blazers' second SCAC matchup of the day, Megan LaCour's kill gave Belhaven a 3-2 lead early. Six straight from the Kangaroos put them in control at the midpoint of the opening set. Austin College continued to surge throughout the set en route to a 25-13 win.
Belhaven answered with the second set's first three points and seven of the first 10. The 'Roos responded with a 14-1 run to go on to a 25-18 victory. In the third set, things were nip and tuck before an 8-2 Kangaroo run gave Austin the momentum to win the set, 25-17, and consequently the match.
Belhaven now turns their attention to Tuesday night's home opener against crosstown foe Tougaloo. First serve between the Blazers and Bulldogs is 6:00 PM.
