JACKSON - The Belhaven Football team suffered a setback on Saturday night, falling 55-10 to Trinity (TX) at Belhaven Bowl Stadium.
The Tigers took control early with a opening-drive touchdown to take the early lead. A 65-yard punt return touchdown gave Trinity a 13-0 lead midway through the opening frame. The visitors added another score to close the first quarter in front, 20-0.
A pair of touchdowns in the second frame gave the Tigers a 34-0 lead at the break. The Blazers found the scoreboard on their opening drive of the second half as Constantine Hontzas split the uprights from 25 yards out.
The Tigers were able to find paydirt three more times over the next two quarters before Brock Morris hit Cooper Tullo in the endzone for a two-yard touchdown pass to bring the game to the final scoreline.
Erwin Reed led the Blazers offensively with five catches for 38 yards. Wyatt Beck paced the Belhaven defense with eight total tackles on the night.
Belhaven begins USA South play next Saturday, September 21st with a road trip to Brevard College. Kickoff is set for 12:00 PM.
