Carruth Fires No-Hitter as Blazers Win Two to Advance to CCS Championship

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- The 6th ranked Belhaven Softball team advanced to the CCS Championship after back to back dominating wins against Huntingdon and Piedmont. 

Game One: 

In a rematch of the only ranked teams in the CCS, Kennedy Carruth shined by throwing her second no-hitter of the season. After Carruth held the Hawks quiet through the first three fames, Ellie Jones ignited the Blazer offense with a solo home run to center field to begin an onsalught of runs. The Blazers would draw in two more runs off a Hawk's error to take a 3-0 lead. The Blazer bats stayed hot with a sacrifice fly from Sarah Stockstill that would be followed up with RBIs from Kennedy Carruth and Ellie Jones to give Belhaven a 7-0 lead. The Blazer offense would add in three more insurance runs in the sixth inning as Carruth closed the door on the Hawks to secure her third career no hitter and grant the Blazers a 10-0 win.

Game Two: 

In the final game of the day, Piedmont would get on the boards early with an RBI single in the first to take the 1-0 advantage. The Blazers offense surged in the fourth as Anna Caime, Sarah Stockstill, and Allie Gordon drew in five runs to give the Blazers a comfortable 5-1 lead. Macy Funderburk would hold the Lions at bay for the rest of the game, going three innings in which she gave up just two hits and no runs to give the Blazers the 5-1 victory.

The Blazers will face Maryville in a rematch of last year's CCS Championship game as they hope to repeat as conference champions. First pitch is set for 11:00 AM. If the Blazers take game one, a decisive game two will follow.
