MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Belhaven Softball team avoided elimination from the Collegiate Conference of the South Softball Championship on Thursday with a dominant 8-3 victory over LaGrange after falling in the Quarterfinals to Maryville.
GAME ONE vs. Maryville
In the opening game of the day against Maryville, the Scots got on the board first with an RBI single in the top of the first to grab the early 1-0 advantage. The Blazers responded in the bottom of the second with back to back RBI doubles from
Anna Caime and
Natalie Parker to take the 2-1 lead.
The Blazers would add in another run in the bottom of the fifth with a sacrifice fly by
Allie Gordon to give Belhaven the 3-1 lead. The Scots would draw in another run with an RBI single in the top of the sixth to cut the deficit into one.
The Scots would tally on a crucial run in the top of the seventh to stay alive and tie the game and send it to extras. Both teams had opportunities in the later innings with no side managing to draw in a run.
Jordan Kanipe kept the Blazers afloat with a laser throw in the top of the ninth that cut down the go-ahead run at the plate. The Blazers would unfortunately fall in the 13th inning after Maryville drew in three runs to grab the 6-3 victory.

GAME TWO vs. LaGrange
The Blazers opened up game two against the Panthers in resounding fashion as
Kennedy Carruth launched a solo shot to left field to get Belhaven on the boards. LaGrange would answer with a run of their own in the following inning evening up the score.
The Blazers regained the lead in the third, thanks to an
Allie Gordon sacrifice fly as well as
Madi Miller scoring on a wild pitch. The Blazers began to open up their lead as they drew in two more runs in the fifth to take a 6-1 lead. LaGrange fought back with a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead down to three. The Blazers would go on to add two more insurance runs and secure an important 8-3 win to stay alive in the tournament.

The Blazers are set for a heavyweight bout tomorrow against NFCA No. 9 and CCS No. 1 Huntingdon in an elimination game. The pair split their regular season series 1-1 and finished with a joint share of the CCS Regular Season title. First pitch is set for 2:00 PM.
