ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Belhaven Softball team punched their ticket to the NCAA Super Regionals for the third straight year after a thrilling 2-1 victory over Washington University.Â
The Bears would strike first with an RBI double to grab an early 1-0 lead. After a quiet few frames,
Madi Miller would narrowly beat out the throw from shortstop to first to bring a runner in for Belhaven and even the score.Â
The following innings would turn into a pitcher's duel with neither team able to draw any runs in. In the bottom of the sixth, Belhaven would capitalize on a throwing error by the Bears as
Ellie Jones came home to score and give the Blazers a 2-1 lead late.
Kennedy Carruth would seal the deal for the Blazers in the top of the seventh as she induced a groundout to Jones to retire the side and send Belhaven back to the Super Regionals for a third consecutive season. Carruth put up yet another impressive performance in the circle, allowing just four hits and one run while finishing with seven strikeouts.Â

Kennedy Carruth were named to the St. Louis Regional All-Tournament team for their performances in the Blazers' 3-0 weekend. Carruth was tabbed the regional's Most Outstanding Player, going 3-0 with three complete games, scattering just 12 hits and five earned runs while recording 21 punchouts.
The Blazers await the winner of the Montgomery Regional for next weekend's Super Regional. The best-of-three series begins on Thursday, May 23rd.
