ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Belhaven Softball team began NCAA Tournament play with a 4-2 win over Grinnell to advance to the Winner's Bracket of the St. Louis Regional.
The Blazers set the tone early as
Madi Miller opened their half of the first with a triple, and an errant throw allowed her to score the game's first run. After three scoreless innings from starter
Kennedy Carruth,
Sarah Stockstill extended the Belhaven lead in the fourth with an RBI single to score
Anna Caime, who led off the inning with a double.
Allie Gordon followed that up two batters later with a two-run shot over the left-center field wall, her 13th homer of the year. The Pioneers got two runs back with a homer in the top of the fifth, but Carruth slammed the door over the final two frames to lift the Blazers to a regional-opening win.
