MARYVILLE, Tenn. - The Belhaven Baseball team continued their strong start to the CCS Championship Tournament on Friday as they took down LaGrange by a dominant 11-2 scoreline.
Belhaven got off to a quick start on Friday as they loaded the bases in the 2nd inning before a LaGrange error opened the door for the Blazers to plate three runs. After
Thomas Hollingsworth beat out an errant throw to first with bases loaded,
Josh Neutze delivered two runs on an RBI hit to put Belhaven up 3-0.
LaGrange would respond with two runs in the 4th but the Blazers had a quick answer as
Owen Abney drove in
Tristan Pearson and put Belhaven up 4-2.
Brett Sanchez was stellar on the mound, keeping the Panthers' opportunities to a minimum and holding on to the Blazers' 4-2 lead through seven frames.
Much like their opening round over Huntingdon on Thursday, a big inning late sealed the victory for the Blazers who have now outscored opposition 19-3 through two games. In the top of the 8th the Blazers scored seven runs which started with a two-run double from
Cole Fletcher.
Eli Britt then delivered a two-run home, his second home run of the tournament, that put Belhaven up 8-2. An infield single from
Owen Abney plated two more runs for the Green and Gold before
Hunter Harrell drove in the 11th and final run of the game.
