MARYVILLE, Tenn. - The Belhaven Baseball team saw their 2024 campaign come to a close on Saturday in the semifinal round of the CCS Championship Tournament. The Blazers fell to top seed Maryville in their winner's bracket contest before being beaten by fourth seed LaGrange in the afternoon.
GAME ONE
The Blazers and Scots put on a display worthy of the top two seeds to start the day on Saturday with the hosts just edging out the Blazers by a 5-4 final score. Belhaven struck first, in the bottom of the 3rd, as
Thomas Hollingsworth launched a solo home run.
Maryville answered immediately in the 4th to tie the game at 1-1 but
Owen Abney restored Belhaven's one-run lead, scoring on a wild pitch in the bottom half of the 4th. Maryville took a 4-2 lead in the top fo the 5th, plating three runs.
Cole Fletcher delivered an RBI double to bring the Blazers back within a run but the Scots' two-run lead was restored in the 7th.
Belhaven once again cut the deficit, this time on an RBI hit from
Noah Foster, but the Blazers could not get back even, forcing them into an elimination game against LaGrange that afternoon.

GAME TWO
In the elimination game against LaGrange, the Blazers started fast, plating two runs in the 1st thanks to RBI from
Owen Abney and
Noah Foster. LaGrange answered though, taking a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the 1st and adding a run in the 2nd.
Runs driven in from
Hunter Harrell and
Aiden DelaCerda brought the Blazers back even at 4-4 in the 4th, but from that point, the Panthers would pull away and taking the game by an 11-4 final score.
