JACKSON, Miss. - The No. 7 Belhaven Softball team picked up a pair of conference wins on Friday, taking down visiting Piedmont, 8-0 and 7-3, at Jim McLeod Field. The Blazers improved to 28-4 (11-1) with the two victories.

GAME ONE

After a scoreless two innings of play, Katie Jo Richardson opened the scoring with an RBI single to right. Belhaven added another in the inning on a single to right from Natalie Parker. 

Allie Gordon gave the Blazers a 3-0 lead with a two-out double in the fourth. After another scoreless inning from Belhaven starter Kennedy Carruth, the Blazers broke things open in the fifth as a bases loaded walk drawn by Mary Moore Widemire began the scoring in the inning. 

Sarah Stockstill followed with an RBI single, and Madi MIller plated two with an RBI double to give the Blazers a 7-0 lead. With the bases loaded and two outs, Ellie Jones secured the run-rule victory with an RBI single to right to cap off an 8-0 shutout win.

GAME TWO

In the nightcap, Belhaven erupted for six runs in the second inning to take control early. Once again, Katie Jo Richardson was responsible for getting the scoring started as she blasted her second home run of the season. The Blazers plated the second run on a throwing error on a sacrifice bunt.

Madi Miller continued her strong day at the plate with a two-run single past the first baseman to give Belhaven a 4-0 advantage. Kennedy Carruth launched her fifth home run of the season two batters later to cap off the six-run outburst.

Anna Caime homered on the first pitch of the third inning to increase the lead to seven heading into the backhalf of the contest. Piedmont plated their first run of the day in the fourth before adding two more in the sixth, but Carruth shut the door in final two innings to give the Blazers a 7-3 win.

Belhaven returns to action next Saturday, April 13th when they travel to Maryville, Tenn. to take on Maryville. The doubleheader is set for 11:00 AM.
