MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Belhaven Baseball team got back into the win column on Friday night, outlasting Huntingdon, 11-10, to take a 1-0 series lead over the Hawks. The Blazers have now won four straight in CCS action after sweeping LaGrange a weekend ago.
Belhaven plated four in the first inning to set the tone early. A two-run single from
Preston Conlee opened the scoring, and a pair of bases-loaded walks added two more in the frame. After Huntingdon got a run back in the home half of the first, the Blazers responded in the second as Conlee once again plated two with an RBI single.
Josh Neutze brought home two more runs in the third with a single to left to extend the Belhaven lead to 8-1. That margin held until the top of the seventh when
Eli Britt tripled home a pair to give the Blazers a 10-1 advantage.
The Hawks scored four in the seventh to cut the lead to 10-5, but Britt added another to the Belhaven tally with an RBI groundout in the eighth. Huntingdon staged a late comeback in the bottom of the ninth with five runs, but
Kyle Norris shut the door by retiring the only two batters he faced to secure an 11-10 win at Neal Posey Field.
