CLINTON, Miss. - The Belhaven Baseball team defeated visiting LaGrange, 6-2 and 3-2, on Saturday to pick up an important conference sweep over the Panthers. The Blazers improved to 18-12 (7-4 CCS) heading into the final two weeks of the regular season.
GAME ONE
The Blazers' bats got going early as
Owen Abney drove in the game's first run with an RBI double off the right field wall. A wild pitch in the second inning scored
Hunter Estes, and
Thomas Hollingsworth plated Belhaven's third run of the game with an RBI groundout.
Belhaven pushed their third run of the second inning and fourth of the game with an RBI base knock from
Tristan Pearson. After LaGrange got on the board with a solo homer in the top of the third, the Blazers responded right back as Abney homered for the seventh time this season to put Belhaven up 5-1.
The Panthers got a run back in the seventh on another solo home run, but the Blazers got that run back in the home half of the eighth thanks to a sacrifice fly from
Josh Neutze.
Kyle Norris struck out the side in order in the ninth to secure a 6-2 victory and a series win.

GAME TWO
Once again, Belhaven wasted no time lighting up the scoreboard at Frierson Field as
Tristan Pearson laid down a bunt single, and a throwing error allowed
Josh Neutze to score.
Owen Abney drove in Pearson with a sac fly to push the lead to 2-0 after one.
Neither team found the scoreboard until the eighth as LaGrange hit a solo shot to cut the Belhaven lead in half. The Blazers once again had an answer in the home half as Abney delivered a two-out RBI single to give Belhaven a 3-1 lead heading into the final frame.
The Panthers plated a run in the ninth, but
Kade May shut the door with the tying run at second to seal an impressive weekend sweep over LaGrange.
