CLINTON, Miss. - The Belhaven Baseball team took the first game of their weekend conference series against LaGrange on Friday, 1-0, behind a complete game shutout from
Brett Sanchez.
A game marked by minimal offensive opportunities, neither team threatened much during the opening frames. LaGrange got the first hit of the ballgame in the top of the 3rd with a one-out double but Sanchez was able to escape the frame unscathed.
With both teams struggling to mount consistent pressure, capitalized on their best scoring opportunity of the game in the bottom of the 8th of a scoreless game. After
Noah Foster worked a one-out walk, he moved into scoring position on a wild pitch.
Foster then moved up to third on an infield single from
Eli Britt that put runners on the corners with one out. Belhaven went the small ball route as
Thomas Hollingsworth dropped a squeeze bunt down the first base line and Foster beat the throw home to put the Blazers in front. With the 1-0 lead,
Brett Sanchez slammed the door shut in the 9th to give Belhaven an early series lead
