DEMOREST, Ga. - The Belhaven Baseball team grabbed their first conference series victory of the season on Saturday as they took down Piedmont 7-4 in the series finale and took two of three games on the weekend.
It was the hosts who took an early lead on the day, picking up a pair of runs in the bottom of the 1st inning on three early hits. Belhaven struck back quickly though, tallying three runs in the top half of the 2nd with
Owen Abney and
Hunter Harrell opening the frame with hits and then coming around to score.
Belhaven tacked on another run in the top of the 4th as
Eli Britt drove in
Hunter Estes with a productive out before Belhaven opened up the game with another three spot in the 5th inning. After an RBI hit from
Owen Abney,
Hunter Harrell delivered a two-RBI double that put the Blazers in front 7-2.
Kade May was stellar in relief and managed the lead well the rest of the way with Piedmont picking up a pair of late runs that only closed the gap in the final score. With the win, Belhaven improves to 13-10 on the season and 3-2 in conference play having split their only other CCS series against Maryville.
