No. 8 Blazers Extend Winning Streak in Doubleheader Sweep of Millsaps

JACKSON, Miss.- The Belhaven Softball team convincingly took down Millsaps in the Riverside Rivalry in a doubleheader sweep to extend their winning streak to ten games. 

GAME ONE

The Blazers got off on the right foot as a Millsaps error drove in a run in the first inning. The Blazers continued to pour in runs as the innings moved along with an RBI single by Sarah Stockstill in the top of the second that would be followed up by a sacrifice fly from Natalie Parker to give the Blazers a 3-0 lead in the third.

The Blazers would add in two more runs in the fifth to add insurance to their lead and went on to play stellar defense to get the shutout victory. Kennedy Carruth continues to excel on the circle for the Blazers as the St. Francisville, Louisiana native pitched seven scoreless innings in which she allowed just four hits and finished with four strikeouts.

GAME TWO

The Blazer bats were hot in game two after only relying on free passes in the opener. Kennedy Carruth began the scoring barrage for the Blazers in the third with an RBI single that drove two runs in. Ellie Jones added another run with a sacrifice fly that would be followed up by an RBI single for Katie Jo Richardson.

Richardson continued to hit well as the junior doubled to left field in the seventh to give the Blazers another run. Belhaven added more insurance in the last inning, driving in five more runs to close out the game and extend their winning streak to ten games.

The Blazers will begin CCS play with hopes of keeping their win streak alive as they travel to Lookout Mountain, Georgia to face the Covenant Scots in a doubleheader this Saturday. First pitch is set for 11:00 AM with game two to follow shortly after.
