CLERMONT, Fla. - The 12th-ranked Blazers began the 2024 Spring Games in style with a 13-2 run-rule win over Augsburg and a 4-1 victory over Washington College (MD). Belhaven improved to 12-3 on the season.
GAME ONE
The Blazers set the tone early with a five-spot in the opening frame of the opener.
Kennedy Carruth opened the scoring with an RBI double to left.
Ellie Jones and
Natalie Parker followed with RBI singles to extend the lead to 3-0. A couple of Augsburg errors led the Blazers' fourth and fifth runs of the inning.
Belhaven continued to add one in the second as Jones singled in
Madi Miller to go up 6-0. Parker picked up a two-run single a batter later to give Belhaven a commanding 8-0 lead after two.
Back-to-back RBI singles from
Allie Gordon and Carruth in the third extended the margin to 10.
Madeline Bullock drew a bases-loaded walk to add the 11th run of the day, and
Anna Caime and
Madison Miller capped off the Blazers' scoring with RBI singles to put Belhaven in front 13-0.
Augsburg plated two in the fourth, but
Belle West recorded a scoreless fifth inning to give the Blazers a run-rule victory. Belhaven tallied 15 hits in the contest, their highest total in the 2024 campaign.

GAME TWO
Game two of the day turned out to be a pitcher's duel between Blazers' starter
Kennedy Carruth and Washington College's Brynn Baillet. With the game still scoreless in the home half of the fifth,
Madi Miller delivered an RBI single to left to score
Anna Caime.
Allie Gordon followed up the single with the decisive shot, a three-run homer to give the Blazers a 4-0 advantage.
Washington College managed to score a run in the sixth, but that was all as Carruth went the distance for the win. The Blazers' ace struck out 15 hitters while allowing just four hits in yet another complete-game outing. Gordon's fifth-inning home run was the 37th longball of her storied Belhaven career.

Belhaven returns to action in Florida on Wednesday when they take on SUNY Geneseo and Simpson College. The opener against the Knights is slated for 9:00 AM with the second game to follow at 11:30 AM.
