EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - The Belhaven Softball team kicked off their weekend with a pair of wins as they swept their Saturday doubleheader at the Fontbonne Tournament. The Blazers took down Hope College, 3-1, in the opening game of the day before posting a 4-2, come-from-behind win over Carroll University in game two.
GAME ONE
The Blazers took the opening game of the day 3-1 behind a stellar start in the circle from
Kennedy Carruth. After Hope scored the opening run of the game in the 2nd inning, the Blazers looked to answer on offense.Â
Belhaven tied the game up in the 3rd inning on a sacrifice fly from
Allie Gordon before taking the lead in the top of the 4th on an
Ellie Jones solo home run, her 1st of the season. Belhaven picked up an insurance run in the top of the 5th when
Kennedy Carruth delivered an RBI double that plated
Madi Miller. The Blazers kept Hope quiet the rest of the way en route to the first win of the day.

GAME TWO
Taylor Heaton got the start in the circle in the Blazers 4-2 win over Carroll and turned in a big performance as the Blazers improved to 6-0 on the season. It would be Carroll who struck first in the game, taking advantage of a couple of infield errors by the Blazers to get baserunners aboard that scored on an RBI hit up the middle.
After Carroll's 3rd inning runs, the Blazers answered back with an important bases loaded double from pinch-hitter
Katie Jo Richardson that plated three runs and gave the Blazers the lead in the bottom of the 5th inning. Belhaven tacked on an extra run in the bottom of the 6th when
Madi Miller delivered an inside-the-park home run extending the advantage to a 4-2 lead.
