EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - The Belhaven Softball Team completed their sweep of the Fontbonne Tournament on Sunday. The Blazers took down Grinnell College 7-4 in game one and closed out the tournament with a dominant 8-3 victory over Illinois College.
GAME ONE
The Blazers got off to a fast start against Grinnell after a
Katie Jo Richardson RBI hit gave Belhaven a 2-0 lead after the first inning. The bats continued to stay hot as the Blazers scored five in the second inning.
Kennedy Carruth was strong in the circle for the Blazers, striking out five in four innings to improve her record to 4-0 on the year. Grinnell grabbed four runs across the final two innings but the early Belhaven offense proved the difference.

GAME TWO
In the second game of the day, the Blazers capitalized early as
Natalie Parker hit a three run homer to left field in the second inning to get Belhaven on the board.
Allie Gordon followed up later in the inning with an RBI double to give the Blazers a 4-0 lead.
Belhaven poured in more runs as the game moved forward with
Madi Miller connecting on an RBI single in the sixth.
Belle West had a great showing in the circle for Belhaven with eight strikeouts and limiting IC to just three runs across seven innings.

The Blazers will hit the road again as they travel to Columbus, Georgia to begin play in the NFCA Division III Leadoff Classic on Friday, March 1 as they face Texas Lutheran and Case Western in a double-header. Game one will begin at 10:00 AM with game two to follow.
