PEARL, Miss. - The Belhaven Baseball team dropped their series finale on Saturday afternoon to the University of St. Thomas (TX), 5-1, with the Celts avoiding the sweep from Belhaven on the weekend.
It was a pitcher's duel at Trustmark Park on Saturday through the early innings as Blazers' starter
Kade May went stride for stride with St. Thomas starter Luke Sebesta. Both starters kept the opposition off the board through the first three frames with Belhaven being held hitless through that period.
St. Thomas picked up the opening run in the top of the 4th inning but the Blazers responded immediately with double from
Tristan Pearson and an RBI from
Owen Abney to tie the game. The visitors would retake the lead in the 6th on a solo home run to left field and although Belhaven threatened, they were not able to answer this time.
Trailing 2-1 after eight innings, the Blazers saw their deficit climb as the Celts picked up three runs in the 9th taking advantage of a couple of defensive miscues by the Blazers. With the loss, Belhaven falls to 5-4 on the season so far but they did pick up their second straight series victory of the year.
