MARYVILLE, Tenn. - The Belhaven Men's Basketball Team advanced to the CCS Championship game after a thrilling overtime victory against the Piedmont Lions.
The Blazers and Lions traded buckets in the opening stages of the first half. Freshman
Jordan Presley made his mark in the first half, going 3-6 from three with nine points to help keep the Blazers close with Piedmont.
For the rest of the half, Belhaven would hold on to the lead despite the Lions being on their heels. The Blazers would enter halftime with a 32-30 lead.
Belhaven began half two on the right foot as the Blazers jumped to a 42-35 lead thanks to a three and thunderous dunk from
Jermario Hersey. As the half moved along, Belhaven maintained their lead even as Piedmont positioned themselves in striking distance of the lead. The Lions made a late push and jumped out to a 69-62 lead at the 4:25 mark.
Belhaven put together a run of their own as a
Judah Jordan three and
Damien Wheaton bucket brought them within one. After late free throws from the Lions to tie the game at 73 with four seconds left,
Judah Jordan nearly converted on a layup that just rimmed out at the buzzer.
Jordan would help close the game for Belhaven in overtime as the Baltimore, Maryland native scored seven out of the team's 12 points in extra minutes. After a stellar defensive effort and an strong showing on the offensive side, the Blazers took down Piedmont 85-80 in overtime.
Judah Jordan was the spearhead of the Blazer's offense, scoring 18 points while grabbing five rebounds and five assists.
Jacob Reese once again dominated on the glass with 10 rebounds to go along with 17 points.
Jermario Hersey played a significant role in the Blazer's efforts as the Brookhaven, Mississippi product scored 14 points while grabbing nine rebounds.
Belhaven will look to bring home the CCS Championship and get revenge as they face Maryville in a rematch of last year's conference title game. The Blazers will tip off at 2:00 PM.
