Marshall's Late-Game Heroics Lift Blazers to 62-60 Win Over Vikings

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - Jordan Marshall knocked down a three-pointer with just 1.8 seconds left to help Belhaven sink Berry, 62-60, on Thursday afternoon in Mount Berry, Georgia. It also marked the second consecutive game that the Blazers have overcome a double-digit second half deficit on the road.

The hosts opened the game on an 11-2 run to grab the momentum early, but the Blazers battled back and were able to get within three on several occasions. A late Viking run pushed the lead out to 10 as the Blazers faced a 37-27 deficit at the intermission.

In similar fashion to last week's comeback win over East Texas Baptist, Belhaven began to claw back over the final 20 minutes. Back-to-back buckets from Berry stretched the lead out to 12, but the Blazers responded with a 10-2 run to cut the lead to 48-44 with 11:29 remaining.

A putback from Jonathan Lucas tied the contest up at 57 with just two and half left, but the Vikings scored an and-one on the other end to retake the lead with 40 seconds on the clock. A jumper from DeMarcus Powe brought the Blazers back within one, and a miss on the frontend of a Berry one-and-one set the stage for one final Belhaven possession.

With time running out, a missed Belhaven shot was tipped out, and Jordan Marshall connected from beyond the arc to put the Blazers in front, 62-60, with 1.8 to play. A halfcourt heave from the Vikings was off the mark, and the Green and Gold secured an impressive road win and its second straight over Berry in the series.

Lucas led Belhaven with 15 points and 11 rebounds to post his first double-double of the season. Marshall finished with 13 points and six rebounds, while Jacob Reese recorded another double-double with 12 points and 10 boards. Jordan Williams added 11 points off the bench.

Belhaven will be off for Christmas break before taking part in the Springhill Suites Guiiford Holiday Classic on December 29th and 30th.
