Blazers Stage Second Half Comeback in 77-71 Win at ETBU

MARSHALL, Texas - The Belhaven Men's Basketball team overcame a 14-point second-half deficit to take down East Texas Baptist, 77-71, on Wednesday night at Ornelas Gymnasium.

The hosts controlled the opening 20 minutes, and the lead reached as many as 16 before a late Belhaven run cut the score to 43-33 Tigers at the break. A Jordan Marshall bucket out of the locker room brought the Blazers back within single digits, but an ETBU 8-2 run stretched the advantage back out to 14 at 51-37 with 16 minutes to play.

Belhaven made their push from the moment on as the Green and Gold scored eight straight points to cut the lead to 51-45 with 13 minutes left. The Blazers were able to claw all the way back at the 6:40 mark as Jermario Hersey completed a three-point play to even the score at 62 apiece.

Threes from Jordan Williams and DeMarcus Powe put Belhaven in front, 68-65, and the Blazers never relinquished the lead over the final four minutes of action. Late defensive stops and solid free-throw shooting down the stretch secured an impressive come-from-behind road victory for Belhaven.

Powe led the Blazers with 18 points on 4-of-7 from three-point range, while Jacob Reese posted 12 points and nine rebounds. Hersey added 10 points.

The Blazers will have a week off before traveling to Mount Berry, Georgia next Thursday, December 19th for a road tilt against Berry.
