JACKSON - The Belhaven Men's Basketball team picked up a blowout 77-49 win over Centenary on Friday in their opening game at the Millsaps Tournament.
The Blazers got off to a strong start in what was a close start between Belhaven and the Gents.
DeMarcus Powe was the catalyst for much of the Blazers' early offense, hitting each of his first four attempts from beyond the arc.
A strong close to the first half saw Belhaven take a double-digit lead into the break. On the other side of half time, Belhaven was dominant and extended their lead out to as much as 35 points thanks to a 12-plus minute stretch that saw Belhaven outscore Centenary 24-6.
After his hot start,
DeMarcus Powe finished with a game-high 20 points in just 19 minutes of play with an efficient 8-10 night from the floor and a 4-5 night from beyond the arc.
Jordan Williams chipped in 13 points while
Jacob Reese grabbed his third double-double of the season with 10 points and 14 rebounds.
The win improves Belhaven 4-1 on the early season with a matchup against Ozarks on Saturday. Belhaven took down Ozarks 69-58 earlier this season at the Rhodes Classic. Tipoff is set for 2:00 PM against the Eagles.
