Blazers Finish CCS Play with Tri-Match Split

JACKSON - The Belhaven Volleyball team concluded Collegiate Conference of the South play on Saturday, taking down Wesleyan in straight sets before dropping a 3-0 decision to Covenant. The Blazers finish the conference slate with a record of 10-6.

Despite an early 6-2 lead for Wesleyan in the morning match, the Blazers responded in the opening set to win it by a score of 25-16. A 9-1 Belhaven run turned a one-point deficit into a 20-13 lead. A kill by Kylarr Martin capped off the first set to give the Blazers the advantage after one.

Belhaven jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead in the second and led by as many as 11 to cruise to a 25-15 win in the second set. Once again, the Green and Gold started fast in the third set looking to pick up the season sweep over Wesleyan.

Three straight points from the Wolves cut the Belhaven lead to 14-8, but the Blazers picked up six of the next seven points to extend the lead out to 20-9 en route to a 25-12 dominant set victory to earn their 10th conference win of the season.

Megan LaCour led the Blazers with 15, while Rylee White added 10. Miriam Ateca and Aniyah Tompkins each had 16 assists in the win.

In the final match of the day, Covenant rode a hot start to a 25-6 opening set victory. The visitors once again jumped in front early en route to a 25-16 win. Down 23-15 in the final set, Belhaven stormed back with five of the next six points to cut the Scots' lead to 24-20. However, Covenant was able to secure the match point to wrap up the afternoon.

The Blazers host Millsaps on Wednesday night for Senior Night to conclude the regular season. First serve is set for 6:30 PM at Rugg Arena.
