JACKSON - The Belhaven Men's Basketball team took down rival Millaps 78-60 on Tuesday, thanks to a dominant second half that saw Belhaven outscore the Majors 51-37.
Just over a year removed from a 23-point victory over Millsaps a season ago, Belhaven was back taking on the Majors and picking up another strong double-digit victory. The game was frenetic, but low-scoring, in the early minutes with the teams combining for just 20 points through the opening 10 minutes.
A choppy first half battle continued as the teams traded baskets and neither side leading by more than five through the opening half.
Neal Terry gave Belhaven their largest lead of the half with just 2:39 to go in the period and Belhaven would take a four point advantage into the break.
The second half was a different story from the first, with both teams finding their offensive groove with more consistency, particularly the Blazers. After Millsaps hit the opening shot of the second half to make it a two-point game, Belhaven would go on a 28-7 run, opening up a 23-point lead on the visitors.
The second half would continue to be dominated by the Blazers who grabbed their second straight win over Millsaps and improved to 3-1 on the year.
Neal Terry had a career game for the Blazers, finishing with a career-high 18 points on 8-11 shooting from the field to go along with 12 rebounds to secure a double-double.
Raymond Adams chipped in 12 points shooting 6-9 from the field while
Jordan Marshall and
Jordan Williams each finished in double figures with 11 points.
The win marks a 2-0 start at home for the Blazers who are now set to play in a tournament hosted by Millsaps with contests against Centenary and Ozarks on the slate.
