JACKSON - The Belhaven Women's Soccer team advanced to the semi-final round of the CCS Women's Soccer Championship Tournament on Friday with a dominant 4-1 win over LaGrange in the quarterfinals.
The Blazers got off to a rapid start as
Micah Benson fired the home team in front just 30 seconds into the match. Benson headed home a good cross from
Emma Miller to give Belhaven the early lead.
Belhaven was the better of the two teams as the first half continued but had to wait to the half hour mark for a second tally. In the 32nd minute,
Nneka Udeh turned her defender and beat the LaGrange goalkeeper at the near post putting the Blazers up 2-0.
Then, less than 15 seconds later,
Ally Davis would add Belhaven's third of the match. On the ensuing kickoff from Udeh's goal, LaGrange turned the ball over in the midfield and
Ally Davis tested her luck from long range. Davis' strike hit the underside of the crossbar and beat the goalkeeper putting Belhaven in front 3-0.Â
LaGrange would pull a goal back late in the first half and Belhaven took a 3-1 lead into the break. On the other side of half time,
Jenny Satcher restored the Blazers' three goal lead and grabbed the final tally of the match with a 52nd minute goal.
The win books Belhaven's spot in the final four of the CCS Tournament with a semifinal match against No. 2 seed Piedmont on the horizon. The Blazers will head to Demorest, Georgia on Wednesday to take on the Lions with hopes of booking a spot in the CCS Championship.
