JACKSON - The Belhaven Volleyball improved to 6-1 in conference play and stayed unbeaten at home on the season with a 3-1 victory over Huntingdon on Tuesday.
The Blazers jumped out to a quick start against the Hawks as they took the first set in back-and-forth fashion. After trading early points, the Blazers went on a six point run that took an 18-17 lead to a 24-17 advantage that the Blazers' saw out.
The second set saw the two teams trade points once again, going down to the wire with the Blazers coming out on top 25-22 and taking a two-set lead. The Hawks would force a fourth set though as they bounced back with a strong third set that saw them take an early lead.
In the tightest set of the night, the Blazers outlasted the Hawks 27-25 despite Huntingdon once again taking an early lead. The gritty set win gave the Blazers a critical conference win and improve to 8-8 overall on the year.
Megan LaCour finished the match as the Blazers' kills leader with 16 against Huntingdon while
Miriam Ateca and
Aniyah Tompkins combined to provide 42 assists. Ateca along with
Jade De La Torre each finished with double-digit digs.
The Blazers are now just one win shy of their overall mark from a season ago and just one conference win from matching their season total from 2023.
Belhaven returns to action on Saturday as they hit the road and travel to Lookout Mountain, Georgia for a conference tri-match against Covenant and Wesleyan. Belhaven will open up the day against the conference defending champions at 11:00 AM. The Blazers will face Wesleyan at 1:00 PM.
