LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - The Belhaven Volleyball team earned a split in Lookout Mountain on Saturday, falling to the hosts in the opener before taking down Wesleyan in straight sets in the nightcap. With the win, Belhaven has matched their season win total from a season ago.
Game One vs. Covenant
The Blazers came out on top, 25-23, in a back-and-forth opening set against the Scots. Down 11-9, Belhaven used a 7-0 run flip the script and take control. The Blazers held off a late Covenant rally to take the set and an early lead.
The two teams traded points throughout the second set as it was deadlocked at 22 late. The Scots earned three straight points to take the set and even things after two sets. The hosts capitalized on the momentum to win the third set, 25-15.
After falling behind 4-0 in the fourth, Belhaven responded with six straight to take an early lead. However, Covenant answered with several runs over the set to take it, 25-18, and win the match.
Megan LaCour led Belhaven with 12 kills to go along with two blocks and 24 digs.
Kayla Robinson added 24 digs.
Game Two vs. Wesleyan
The Blazers' second match of the day proved to be a successful one as Belhaven broke a 10-10 tie with eight straight points en route to a 25-16 opening set win. The Green and Gold controlled the second set behind an 8-2 run early to take it, 25-14.
The two squads went back-and-forth in the third set, but Belhaven created the separation they needed to turn an 11-10 deficit into a 17-11 lead. An ace from Rylee White capped off a 25-17 win to secure the Blazers' seventh conference victory of the season.
White paced Belhaven with nine kills, while Aniyah Tompkins had 26 assists and three service aces.
The Blazers will host in-state foe MUW on Tuesday, October 15th. First serve at Rugg Arena is set for 6:00 PM.
