JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Volleyball team suffered a tough loss on Tuesday in what was a thrilling, five-set battle against in-state rival MUW.
It was a tight match from start to finish, coming down to a two-point margin in the decisive fifth set. Belhaven jumped out to an early lead, taking the first set 25-17 with a big scoring run that took a 16-15 lead out to a 21-15 Belhaven advantage.
The visitors hit back in the second set, holding off the Blazers and evening up the match with a 25-21 set win. Belhaven was dominant in the third set, jumping out to an early lead as they secured the first six points of the set.
The W bounced back once again to even up the match with a 25-17 win in the fourth set and then secured the win in a back-and-forth fifth set that ended in a slim 15-13 margin.
Megan LaCour once again led the Belhaven attack with 14 kills while also finishing with 16 digs on the night.
Aniyah Tompkins finished the match with 24 assists while
Miriam Ateca added 22 assists of her own.
Kayla Robinson tallied a team-high 23 digs in the match while
Rylee White recorded two solo blocks.Â
