DEMOREST, Ga. - The Belhaven Volleyball team earned a split in their CCS tri-match battles against Piedmont and Maryville on Saturday. The Blazers took down the hosts, Piedmont, in a tough five set contest before falling to Maryville in straight sets.
Belhaven vs. Piedmont
In the opener on the day, Belhaven had to battle against a gritty Piedmont squad that was playing for a season split against the Blazers after Belhaven won the matchup in Jackson 3-1 earlier this season.
Belhaven came out on top in the tough first set battle, 25-22, picking up the final three points of the set. Piedmont answered back though with a strong second set which the Lions used a five-point run in the middle of the set to seal a 25-19 win.Â
The Blazers regained control with a 25-23 win in the third set and were on the verge of a win over the Lions but Piedmont edged out Belhaven 26-24 in the fourth set to force the decisive final frame. The Blazers were dominant in the fifth set though, taking it 15-8 to pick up their 10th win of the season and 8th win in conference play. Both of those marks surpass their comparable win total from last season.
In the win,
Rylee White picked up six block assists in the win which helped her surpass the 100 career blocks mark with Belhaven.
Belhaven vs. Maryville
The final match of the day was a tough one for the Blazers who fell 3-0 to Maryville which evened up the season series between the two clubs. Maryville jumped out to an early lead with a 25-22 victory in the opening set. The Blazers would hang tough but fall 25-14 in the second set and 25-18 in the final set.
The Blazers sit at 10-11 overall this season and hold an impressive 8-3 record in conference play. Belhaven returns to action on Tuesday with a home match against LeTourneau in a non-conference bout before heading to Kentucky for a conference tri-match against Asbury and Agnes Scott over the weekend.
