COLUMBUS, Miss. - The Belhaven Men's Soccer team picked up a thrilling 5-1 win over MUW on Tuesday thanks to a second half outburst that saw the Blazers score four goals in the span of 13 minutes.
The first half between the Blazers and Owls was dominated by Belhaven but without a goal to show for it. The Blazers outshot the hosts 12-3 across the opening 45 minutes but only three of those 12 shots would force MUW into a save.
The second half flipped the script however with the Blazers taking the lead just eight minutes into the period with
Wesley Bloodworth tallying his team-leading 5th goal of the season. Bloodworth's goal sparked a frenetic quarter of an hour that saw four more goals scored including three for Belhaven.
Igor Rudolph doubled the Blazers' lead in the 55th minute with his third goal in as many matches as his scoring form continued. The W pulled a goal back in the 61st minute but Belhaven responded immediately as
Ricardo Flores scored his first of the season in the 64th minute.
Avery Anders would tally his second goal of the season with an assist from
Noah Leibe putting the Blazers' up 4-1 in the 66th minute before
CJ Koppeis capped off the win with an 81st minute goal, his second tally of the year.
The Blazers will return to action on Saturday against Covenant in a rematch of last year's CCS Championship and this season's preseason No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the conference. Kickoff in Georgia is set for 2:00 PM.
