MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Belhaven Football team were defeated by Huntingdon by a score of 45-31 on Saturday afternoon at Samford Stadium.
Belhaven found paydirt first with time ticking down in the first quarter as Devin Daniels scampered in from three yards out after a 70-yard pitch and catch from Blake Kirby to Erwin Reed set things up. The hosts responded quickly with a touchdown to draw even at seven apiece with 14:49 left in the half.
The Hawks added another score at the 10-minute mark to take a 14-7 lead. Constantine Hontzas capped off a nine-play, 41-yard drive with a 28-yard field goal to cut into the Huntingdon lead. The Hawks scored twice over the next three minutes to take a 28-10 advantage.
Belhaven quickly answered with a three-play drive that ended with a nine-yard Caleb Gallashaw touchdown, but a long kickoff return set up a Huntingdon touchdown to give them a 35-17 lead at the half.
The momentum shifted on the opening drive of the second half as a botched snap on a punt turned into six for the Blazers as Mathew Cacamo recovered the ball in the endzone. However, Huntingdon was able to extend their lead with a field goal and a touchdown to take a 45-24 lead into the fourth.
Blake Kirby found RJ Garrison for a 14-yard score with just over two minutes to play, but that ended the scoring as the Hawks ran out the clock to win it 45-31.
Erwin Reed went over the century mark in receiving yards for the Blazers with 104 on five catches.
The Blazers return to Belhaven Bowl Stadium next Saturday for a league matchup against Southern Virginia. Kickoff is set for 12:00 PM.
