Blazers Surge Past Knights 38-17

JACKSON - Belhaven scored 31 unanswered points to race past visiting Southern Virginia, 38-17, at Belhaven Bowl Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

After the Knights took a 10-0 lead into the second quarter, Devin Daniels got the Blazers on the board with a 48-yard touchdown run with 4:18 left in the first half. After a defensive stop, Belhaven wasted no time taking their first lead of the game as Caleb Gallashaw scored from the Blazers' nine-yard line to go up 14-10. The 91-yard run set a program record of the longest play in school history.

Constantine Hontzas added three more on a 38-yard field goal as the opening half clock expired to give the Green and Gold a 17-10 lead at the break. Midway through the second half, Devin Daniels broke free for a 66-yard touchdown run to go up two scores at the 8:33 mark of the third.

A SVU punt out of bounds led to a short field for the Blazers, who needed just one play to score as Brock Morris hit Jacobey James-Grace for a 34-yard touchdown down the sideline to give Belhaven a 31-10 lead after three.

The visitors found the endzone with 10:51 left to cut the lead to 31-17, but Daniels once again found paydirt from 19 yards out to put the game away with 2:46 to go. A fourth down stop by the Belhaven defense on the ensuing possession gave the Blazers the ball back, who were then able to run the clock out and secure a 38-17 victory.

Daniels led an explosive Belhaven rushing attack with 160 yards and three touchdowns on 11 carries. Caleb Gallashaw went over the century mark as well with 123 yards and a touchdown on nine carries. D'Ante Gallashaw added 41 yards on eight carries.

Defensively, Wyatt Beck led the Blazers with 11 total tackles, a tackle for loss, and a fumble recovery. Josiah Raymond hauled in his first interception of the season, while Jay'Den Jones and Arnez Moore each forced a fumble,

The Blazers hit the road next Saturday, October 19th for an 11:00 AM kickoff against Greensboro.
