GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Belhaven Football team overcame a 10-point halftime deficit to take down Greensboro, 30-20, on Saturday at Pride Field.
The hosts got on the board first with a touchdown with 10:15 left in the opening quarter. After both teams traded possession for a majority of the first half,
Constantine Hontzas connected on a 34-yard field goal to cut the lead to 7-3.
The Pride found the scoreboard in the final minute of the first half to take 13-3 lead into the break. The Blazers responded with a touchdown of their own with 9:55 in the third quarter as
Devin Daniels scampered in from seven yards out.
Belhaven took their first lead of the game after capping off a nine-play, 78-yard drive with a 12-yard touchdown pass from
Brock Morris to
Jacobey James-Grace to go up 17-13 in the final minute of the third quarter.
The Blazers took control of the momentum to start the final 15 minute as
Icarius Hodgin intercepted a Greensboro pass and took it back 40 yards to the endzone to give Belhaven a 24-13 lead.
After
Wyatt Beck picked off a pass on the ensuing possession, Morris hit
RJ Garrison for a five-yard score to put the game away with 6:51. Greensboro scored on their next offensive drive, but the Blazers ran out the remainder of the clock to pick up a 30-20 road win.
Morris finished 15-for-23 through the air with two scores. James-Grace led the receiving attack with three catches for 84 yards and a touchdown. Daniels ran for 80 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries, while
D'Ante Gallashaw totaled 77 yards on just five carries.
Defensively,
Wyatt Beck led the way with nine tackles, 0.5 tackle for loss, and an interception.
Icarius Hodgin and
Colton Jones also hauled in interceptions on the day.
The Blazers will be off next weekend before returning home on Saturday, November 2nd against Maryville. Kickoff is set for 12:00 PM at the Belhaven Bowl Stadium.
