JACKSON - The Belhaven Football team fell to Maryville College on Saturday, 42-11, in the Blazers' penultimate home game of the season.
Maryville took an early lead in the contest after an interception saw the Scots take possession inside the Belhaven 20-yard line. The Blazers responded on the following drive with a 26-yard field goal from
Constantine Hontzas and trailed 7-3 after the opening quarter.
The visitors would add a touchdown early in the second quarter and take a 14-3 lead into the half. Maryville would pull away then with a couple of scores in the third quarter and two more in the fourth.
Caleb Gallashaw grabbed Belhaven's lone touchdown of the day with 30-yard touchdown run partway through the final quarter.
Caleb Gallashaw led the Blazers' offense on the day with 44 yards on just eight carries and the touchdown.
Tyler Miller finished with a team-high 11 tackles while
Josiah Raymond,
Jimmy Byrd and
Colton Jones all joined Miller with tackles for loss.
Dee Gray finished the contest with a pair of pass breakups on day and
Constantine Hontzas knocked home his only field goal attempt on the day.
Belhaven will return to the Bowl Stadium one final time this season as they host LaGrange next Saturday for Senior Day. Kickoff against the Panthers is set for 12:00 PM.
