MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Belhaven Volleyball suffered a tough defeat on the road against Huntingdon on Wednesday in their final road match of the regular season.
The Blazers fell 3-0 to the Hawks on the day with Huntingdon taking an early lead through a 25-16 first set victory. The Blazers put together a strong run in the middle part of the first set after falling behind 17-6 but the early deficit was too much to overcome.
In the second set, the Blazers and Hawks went toe-to-toe with Huntingdon jumping out front early but the Blazers closing the gap to just a few points. Huntingdon won out though taking the set 25-20 before closing out the match with a 25-17 victory in the third and final set.
Cami Davis had a strong performance for the Blazers on the day, leading the team with eight kills and a .438 kill percentage.
Emma Gardner and
Rylee White each finished the match with five kills apiece.
Aniyah Tompkins led the team with 14 assists while
Jade De La Torre posted a joint team-high 12 digs.
Megan LaCour also finished the night with 12 kills while also posting three block assists.
The Blazers fall to 11-14 on the season and a 9-5 record in conference play. However they hold steady at No. 4 in the CCS standings as they chase a top four spot and the right to host an opening round CCS Tournament match.
Belhaven returns to action this weekend at home in a tri-match against Covenant and Wesleyan. The Blazers' match against Wesleyan is set for 9:00 AM in Rugg Arena.
