Calder Seals 100th Career Win in Victory Over Agnes Scott

JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Women's Basketball team improved to 3-1 in Collegiate Conference of the South play on Tuesday as they took down Agnes Scott by a 94-40 scoreline. The win was also a historic one for Belhaven Head Coach Steve Calder who earned his 100th career victory at the helm of the program.

It was a wire to wire win for the Blazers who took an early lead over the Scotties and once they pulled away, never looked back. By the end of the first quarter, Belhaven led 28-11 and the Blazers combination of pressure and transition game would see the lead skyrocket in the second quarter.

In the second frame, Belhaven outscored Agnes Scott 30-8 and took a 39-point lead into the break. Belhaven remained dominant in the second half outscoring the visitors 17-7 in the third quarter and pulling out to their 50-plus point lead which would hold until the final whistle.

As a team, it was one of the Blazers' most efficient nights offensively of the season shooting 49.3% from the field and a season high 50% from three on 16 total attempts. The Blazers dominated the rebounding battle 51-27 and forced 24 turnovers leading in part to 46 fast break points.

Belhaven was led offensively on the night by Allaijah Gamble who posted a career-high 19 points on 5-9 shooting from beyond the arc. Ebony Gayden filled the stat sheet against the Scotties with 15 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. Xhiir Burgess chipped in with eight points and a game-high 14 rebounds.

The win moves Belhaven to 4-8 overall and gives them a solid 3-1 start to conference play. With Calder's 100th career victory, he joins Gwen White (1974-84) and Billy Evans (2001-12) as they only coaches to record 100 wins at the helm of the program.

Belhaven returns to action on Thursday, January 11th as they head to Covenant for their first conference road matchup of the season. Tip off against the Scots is set for 4:00 PM Central.
