MARYVILLE, Tenn. - The Belhaven Men's Basketball team dropped their road contest to the Maryville Scots 81-72.
The Blazers got off to a solid start in the opening minutes against the Scots, connecting on back-to-back triples by
Jordan Marshall to take an early 8-4 lead. The Scots responded well, as both teams continued to fight for a share of the lead.
Belhaven began to fall behind as Maryville went on an 11-2 run to take a 35-27 lead with less than five minutes remaining in the half. The Scots controlled the remaining minutes of the half as the Blazers found themselves behind 46-37 heading into halftime.
The Blazers struggled to keep up with the Scots offense at the start of the second half, falling behind 57-41. Belhaven went on to make a dent in the lead by going on an 11-3 run to trail 60-52 at the 10:36 mark. Unfortunately for the Blazers, Maryville went on a scoring barrage to give them their biggest lead of the night at 19.
In the final minutes, the Blazers made one last push at the lead as
Jordan Marshall converted on a three with 36 seconds remaining to cut the lead down to five. Unfortunately, the Blazers comeback bid was too late as they fell to the Scots 81-72.
Four Blazers made it into double figures on the night as the team shot 43.5% from the field as well as a solid 40% from three.
Judah Jordan and
Jordan Marshall led the Blazers in scoring with 16 a piece.
Luke Couch followed behind with 13 points on the day and hit a stellar career milestone as he became the program's second all-time leading scorer surpassing Charlie Tharp.
Jacob Reese, who continues to be an X factor for the Blazers matching his career high in rebounds with 17 while also posting 13 points.
